The MS SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments. This role ensures high availability, optimal performance, and compliance with enterprise standards while supporting application teams and business stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server databases (on-prem and cloud-based)
- Implement and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Configure and maintain AlwaysOn Availability Groups for high availability and disaster recovery
- Perform performance tuning, query optimization, and index management
- Manage database security, including role-based access control and auditing
- Apply patches, upgrades, and support version migrations (e.g., SQL Server 2008 to 2019+)
- Automate routine tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, or other scripting tools
- Collaborate with application developers and infrastructure teams to support deployments and troubleshoot issues
- Document database environments, configurations, and procedures
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide 24/7 support as needed

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or MCSA: SQL Server
- 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments
- Hands-on experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups, replication, mirroring, and clustering
- Familiarity with Azure SQL (IaaS and PaaS), Azure Migrate, and Data Migration Assistant
- Solid understanding of database security, encryption (e.g., TDE), and compliance standards
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments
- Proficiency in T-SQL, MS SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and SQL Server Agent
- Proven excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
