Principal Software Engineer in Test

Location: Nasuni IIC - Hyderabad, India - Hybrid - 3 days onsite / 2 days remote

Role Overview

The testing team at Nasuni is dedicated to testing and validating the Cloud File Data Services platform, confirming that it can handle the demands of performance, scalability, and reliability required by our enterprise customers worldwide. As a Principal Software Engineer in Test, you will serve as the technical expert on product functionality, test infrastructure, automation tooling, and system validation. You will architect and evolve our PyTest-based automation framework, drive test strategies for complex subsystems, mentor engineers, and ensure that quality and testability are embedded into every stage of the development lifecycle.

As a Principal Engineer in Test on the IIC Test team, you will:

• Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive test plans and test cases for functional and system testing of complex features and subsystems.
• Design and develop automated QA test infrastructure using Python, expanding the automated test framework to validate large-scale, distributed systems in cloud and hybrid environments.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) by mastering key areas of the testing domain, providing technical guidance, and ensuring best practices are applied across projects.
• Mentor engineers in automation practices, test design, debugging, and distributed systems testing.
• Collaborate with Development, Product, Performance, Sustaining, and Customer Support teams to define test coverage, ensure platform reliability, and resolve issues quickly.
• Lead complex testing initiatives as a self-starter, managing priorities and deliverables with minimal supervision while upholding high quality standards.
• Participate in design and architecture reviews, advocating for testability and resilience.
• Define and evaluate multiple design options for test components, balancing trade-offs and driving alignment with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert in test automation, functional and system testing, and scale validation.
• Evaluate and improve technical feasibility, scope, and requirements clarity by engaging in early-stage planning with product and engineering teams.
• Act as a go-to expert for internal stakeholders seeking insight into system quality, test coverage, and performance risks.
• Analyze logs, metrics, and system behavior to identify and root-cause complex issues.
• Develop and champion best practices in Python, PyTest, and test engineering across the team.
• Configure hardware and software systems as needed for test environments
• Use AI to improve productivity, test quality, coverage and performance.

About You – Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software testing and automation, with deep expertise in functional, system, performance, and scale testing.
• 5+ years of experience testing system software and Enterprise systems.
• 5+ years of experience with storage protocols (e.g. NAS, S3), features (e.g. HA, Clustering, Snapshots) and distributed systems.
• 5+ years of hands-on development experience using Python or an object oriented language within test infrastructure or QA engineering contexts.
• Advanced proficiency with PyTest, Linux, and automated test frameworks.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, storage architectures, and cloud platforms.
• Proven ability to lead test engineering initiatives across multiple teams.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab), version control (Git), and modern software delivery practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Desired and Plus Skill

• Experience with network file system protocols such as SMB, NFS, and CIFS.
• Hands-on experience with one or more cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
