About this role
About the RoleBlackRock’s Post Trade & Accounting group is seeking a Vice President-level engineering leader to advance our enterprise Client Reporting platform. This role encompasses technical leadership, system design, and direct coding responsibilities, enabling the development of robust, event-driven platforms that deliver reliable solutions for institutional and Aladdin clients globally.
You will lead development of core platform capabilities across distributed services and data systems, shaping long-term architecture for a mission-critical platform where scale, accuracy, resiliency, and auditability are essential. You will also partner across product and operations to drive modernization, automation, and AI-enabled engineering practices.
The Client Reporting team delivers and manages BlackRock’s enterprise Client Reporting platform, providing end-to-end reporting solutions for a diverse global base of accounting and institutional clients. We oversee the full lifecycle of report production and distribution—ensuring quality, scalability, and operational excellence through advanced QC workflows, exception management tools (including the Aladdin dashboard), and robust monitoring frameworks.
The team manages reporting inventory and KPIs, supports both standardized and highly customized data sets, and enables access to reporting-ready data through digital portals and reporting libraries. We also power a dynamic self-service experience, offering secure document delivery via API, SFTP, and Secure Links, along with flexible tools for client-driven report configuration and branding.
By owning the critical systems and processes behind client reporting, the team plays a central role in shaping client experience, driving automation and innovation, and delivering scalable, resilient solutions for industry-leading clients.
What You’ll Do
- Lead development, architecture, and design of distributed, event-driven systems (Java/Python)
- Evolve scalable microservices and API-first platforms aligned to enterprise strategy
- Architect high-throughput data systems integrating SQL/NoSQL, streaming, and caching technologies
- Drive performance, resiliency, observability, and production excellence
- Provide full-stack technical leadership across backend and frontend (Angular/React)
- Translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions and executable roadmaps
- Manage stakeholders and lead global teams to deliver against strategic milestones
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted SDLC practices (Copilot, Claude, Windsurf, etc.)
- Design safe and scalable LLM integration patterns (prompt engineering, structured outputs, streaming, tool/function calling)
- Architect multi-step or agent-based workflows (e.g., LangChain, Google ADK or equivalent)
- Define shared prompts, agent contracts, and AI governance standards across teams
- Guide teams in translating ambiguous problems into structured, AI-augmentable execution plans
What You’ll Bring
- B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience with proven leadership of teams or major platforms
- Strong expertise in Java, Python, and distributed systems architecture
- Experience designing highly available, real-time enterprise systems
- Deep understanding of APIs, microservices, data modeling, and scalability patterns
- Experience with SQL, NoSQL, and streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Redis)
- Exposure to cloud-native and DevOps practices (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional influence skills
- Demonstrated experience integrating AI into engineering workflows and production platforms
Nice to Have
- Experience with Kafka, Redis, or other distributed systems technologies
- Cloud-native experience (Docker, Kubernetes, Azure/AWS/GCP)
- Exposure to CI/CD and observability tooling
Interest in financial systems, reporting platforms, or investment processes
