Role Overview

We are expanding our Platform Engineering team and seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Systems (Platform) to design, evolve, and scale the Linux-based foundation of Nasuni’s NAS appliance platform.

This role is ideal for engineers who:

• Own complex subsystems end-to-end
• Thrive solving deep Linux, storage, and performance problems
• Influence architectural decisions within a platform domain
• Mentor and elevate other engineers
• Care deeply about reliability and production excellence

This is not a backend application role — it is deeply systems-oriented and infrastructure-focused.

Level & Scope Definition

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will:

• Own design and evolution of major subsystems within the NAS platform
• Make architectural decisions within your domain
• Lead complex debugging efforts spanning OS, filesystem, networking, and virtualization layers
• Improve system performance, reliability, and operational maturity
• Mentor mid-level engineers and guide design reviews
• Influence release quality and engineering standards

You will operate with high autonomy and are expected to independently drive complex initiatives from design through production.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement enhancements to core Linux-based NAS subsystems
• Lead design reviews and drive technical decision-making within your domain
• Diagnose and resolve high-severity production issues affecting global customers
• Improve filesystem, storage, and I/O performance across deployments
• Optimize deployment, upgrade, and operational reliability
• Contribute to CI/CD and automated testing strategy for systems software
• Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Support, and Cloud teams
• Mentor and elevate engineering standards within the platform team

Must-Have Qualifications

• 6–9+ years of professional software engineering experience
• 4+ years building and maintaining Linux-based systems or platform software
• Strong systems programming skills in Python and/or C/C++
• Deep understanding of Linux internals (memory, storage, networking, systemd)
• Proven experience debugging complex production issues across OS layers
• Hands-on experience with filesystems (XFS, ext4) and performance tuning
• Experience working in virtualized environments (ESX, KVM, Hyper-V)
• Demonstrated ownership of subsystems or major components
• Strong communication skills and technical mentorship capability

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or maintaining appliance-grade software
• Experience integrating systems with AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Kernel-level debugging exposure
• Experience optimizing multithreaded or I/O-intensive systems
• Familiarity with rpm/yum packaging and system provisioning

Ideal Qualifications

• Led architectural evolution of platform components
• Designed or refactored critical I/O paths
• Experience in distributed storage systems
• Open-source contributions in Linux or systems domains
• PostgreSQL experience in systems-level environments

Education

BE/B.Tech, ME/M.Tech in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
