As a Data Marketplace operations lead, based out of our BMS Hyderabad you are part of the Data Platform team along with supporting the larger Data and ML Engineering tower. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and leading data solutions on AWS cloud ecosystem, DevOps, Data Engineering, DataOps, and platform support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with an end-to-end platform ownership mindset, innovate and drive initiatives through completion.
  • Accountable for day-to-day global operations and support of the Data Marketplace. Follow strategic directions and policies defined by the Data Marketplace Product Owner.
  • Manage the Data Marketplace operations governance. Define and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Data Marketplace operations. Define, refine, and maintain centralized standard taxonomy. Define and maintain a structured framework (ontology) in the context of Data Marketplace and related information architecture including enabling shared understanding and interoperability between technology, processes, and people.
  • Oversee technical development, changes, upgrades, and maintenance of the Data Marketplace.
  • Manage stakeholders of cross-functional teams. Establish and maintain feedback mechanisms and processes. Document meeting notes, report progress, and incorporate feedback into the backlog.
  • Seek strategic direction from the Data Marketplace Owner. Report progress and risk status. Track and report on KPIs, budget versus spent, and task/project status.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify requirements and gaps. Suggest continuous operational improvements.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate education, training, and awareness activities. Keep the Data Marketplace Playbook and other documents/media up-to-date.
  • Prepare and upkeep backlogs for Data Marketplace related components, Data Products, and EDM tools. Collaborate with the Data Marketplace Owner to prioritize backlog items.
  • Assign and maintain the maturity status of Data Products (e.g., certification) with constant auditing. Audit metadata to manage data product publication status. Prevent duplicates and junk data in the marketplace. Maintain user access with constant auditing and track licenses.
  • Collaborate with Vendors, Cloud teams, Cyber Security teams, ITVS/ITQM teams, Audit teams, Technical architects, and Technical development/delivery teams. Lead operations related to technical, security, qualification/validation, auditing, quality, and periodic reviews (e.g., access review).
  • Oversee incident management and manage ITSM processes. Lead issue resolution triage, task assignments, and progress tracking for timely resolution and stakeholder updates for Data Marketplace and related components.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to improve data product utilization. Ensure system change management processes align with organizational audit guidelines. Incorporate audit suggestions into standard processes.
  • Keep related artifacts up-to-date, well-organized, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. Identify and mitigate risks associated with Data Marketplace operations.
  • Monitor performance metrics and optimize operations for efficiency and effectiveness. Definite and implement best practices for Data Marketplace operations management.
  • Drive innovation in Data Marketplace operations. Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Provide high-quality support to Data Marketplace users. Enhance user engagement and satisfaction through proactive communication and support initiatives.
  • Any relevant responsibilities as assigned by the line manager or the leader.
  • Implement and maintain security protocols to protect sensitive data.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering and analytics
  • Closely partner with the Enterprise Data and Analytics Platform team, other functional data teams and Data Community lead to shape and adopt data and technology strategy.
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert on Data & Analytics Solutions.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight
  • Mentors other team members effectively to unlock full potential
  • Work in an Agile/Product based environment

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. An advanced degree (Master's or MBA) is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading data operations or similar roles, preferably in a global environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering analytical and/or technical projects and upgrades.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management and cross-functional team leadership.
  • In-depth understanding of and some experience with Data and Information architecture.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or other data-intensive industries is preferred.
  • Prior experience in roles such as Data Operations Manager, Data Governance Lead, Data Platform Manager, or similar positions.
  • Proficiency in data management tools and platforms (e.g., EDM tools, data catalogs).
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and data lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and related services.
  • Knowledge of Pharma data domains, pharma regulations as well as EU compliance, including GDPR and Data Privacy. Knowledge of clinical data standards (CDISC, SDTM, etc.) and R&D Data format is advantageous.
  • Experience with ITSM tools and processes (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira).
  • Knowledge of scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python) is a plus.
  • Experience with analytics and reporting tools for creating dashboards and reports.
  • Experience working with APIs and Structured as well as Unstructured data.
  • Solid understanding and experience in data modeling, variety of data structures, metadata management, and data quality.
  • Solid understanding of and proven experience with ontology and taxonomy concepts, and information architecture.
  • Experience and familiarity with data-centric technologies like Spark, Kafka, AWS Analytics, AWS Glue, Cloudera Impala, Redshift, DynamoDB, Neptune, GraphQL, Nabu, ERWIN, ER Studio etc; experience with advanced visualization tools like Tableau and Spotfire is a plus.
  • Proven experience in project management and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and leverage data insights to drive decision-making and process improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration and team-building skills.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Experience with security frameworks and best practices for data management.
  • Experience and expertise in establishing agile and product-oriented teams that work effectively with teams in the US and other global BMS sites.

  • Demonstrates a focus on improving processes, structures, and knowledge within the team. Leads in analyzing current states delivers strong recommendations in understanding complexity in the environment, and the ability to execute to bring complex solutions to completion.​
  • Data management and governance certifications (e.g., DAMA Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), DGSP, CIMP) are a plus.
  • Experience with metadata management and data cataloging tools.
  • Familiarity with data integration and ETL processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities.
