Senior Software Development Engineer — HealthTech & FinTech Systems

About the Role

Techdome is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to own the technical spine of an 80+ engineer studio building systems that handle real patient data and real money — not staging data, not demos. You'll design the architecture, write the PR that sets the pattern, run the incident retro at 2am, and sit across the table from clients trusting your judgment.

This is a hands-on ownership role, not a diagramming job with a title bolted on. You'll be writing code, reviewing PRs, and making calls that other teams inherit — this week and a year from now.

What You'll Own

• End-to-end architecture — service boundaries, data models, API contracts, encryption strategy, observability, and scaling plans.
• Compliance-by-design — PHI handling (audit logging, access control, tokenization, encryption in transit and at rest) and strict payment-data isolation, even under deadline pressure.
• The full MERN stack in production — MongoDB, Express, React, Node — plus containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and secrets management you've actually run, not just documented.
• Major trade-off calls — monolith vs. microservices, build vs. buy, sync vs. event-driven — that you can defend with evidence months later.
• Technical standards and reference architectures that outlast your own projects and get inherited by other teams.
• A point of view on AI-assisted development — Claude Code, Copilot, and Cursor are used daily here — and how it changes what "architecture" means.
• Client relationships — you're the one who gives the hard recommendation, not just the easy one.

What Success Looks Like

• Within 90 days: you've reviewed the existing architecture, identified the compliance or scaling risk nobody's said out loud yet, and shipped a fix or a plan for it.
• Within a year: at least one pattern or standard you set has been adopted by a team you don't work with directly.

Must-Haves

• 6+ years of production ownership, including 2–3 years as final technical authority on a platform.
• Current, hands-on Node.js and React experience (MERN preferred; a strong Node-centric full-stack background is also seriously considered).
• Real cloud experience running production systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure — including networking, security, and cost optimization.
• Background in at least one regulated or high-stakes domain: HIPAA/PHI, PCI-DSS, fintech, banking, or insurance.
• Concrete, defensible trade-off decisions you've made and lived with — not hypotheticals.

Nice-to-Haves

• Audited HIPAA experience (BAA-covered infrastructure, PHI access controls, audit trails).
• Payment systems work with Stripe, Braintree, or similar, inside a PCI-DSS environment.
• Event-driven or microservices architecture at meaningful scale.
• Consulting, multi-product, or venture-studio background.
• A track record of setting technical standards across multiple teams or products.
