Atmospheric Extremes Modeling

About the Role

Extreme Event Solutions at Verisk is establishing a new Meteorology Team within its Hyderabad office. We are looking for an atmospheric scientist to lead this team and coordinate research efforts with other teams in the Hyderabad and Boston offices who are responsible for developing different aspects of next generation of hazard models for tropical and extra-tropical cyclones, severe convective storms, and extreme rainfall events. The Hyderabad Meteorology team will engage in a variety of research activities including numerical modeling, observational data analysis, and the application of scientific expertise toward the interpretation and representation of atmospheric extremes.

About the Day-to-Day Responsibilities of the Role

• Provide domain knowledge and numerical modeling expertise for capturing processes impacting weather extremes.
• Collect and analyze a wide range of in-situ and remote sensing observations.

• Develop code and apply statically robust methods for model development and evaluation.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Knowledge of atmospheric dynamics is required.
• Background and experience in modeling atmospheric extremes would be considered a significant advantage. 
• Experience with statistical analysis and data science is desired. 
• Ability to gather, integrate, and critically analyze data from all relevant sources.
• Strong skills gained through practical experience using high-level language and tools such as Python, R, C++, FORTRAN, and the Linux environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Open to early and mid-career scientists.

Requirements

• Ph.D. degree in meteorology, geoscience, or related fields, and ideally with post-graduate experience.
