Sutherland Global Services is seeking MySQL Database Administrator who will be responsible for implementing backend logic and working closely with database developer.

Job Description

This position is responsible for providing production database operations, ensuring performance and scalability, high availability and disaster recovery, compliance, and security of the MySQL database environment. This role also provides technical leadership within DBA team.

Additional responsibilities include developing best practices and repeatable procedures for deploying databases, day-to-day operational activities including break/fix, capacity management, backup and restore, performance monitoring and tuning. The individual filling this role makes recommendations for physical database design, architecture, and testing of database technologies. Identifies data sources, constructs decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams and documents the process. Writes code for database access, modifications, and constructions including stored procedures. Maintains version control for promoting changes into production environments. Has good understanding of storage systems and various application integration architectures. Supports production environments 24x7.

Duties:

1. Manages databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission critical production systems.
2. Applies data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
3. Independently analyzes, solves, and corrects issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
4. Refines and automates regular processes, tracks issues, and documents changes.
5. Assists developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
6. Provides 24x7 support for critical production systems. Participates in an On-Call rotation.
7. Performs scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
8. Shares domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross training to other peers and team members.
9. Provides high availability solutions for multiple database configurations.
10. Uses extensive experience in disaster recovery solutions and best practices to create, maintain, and verify backups using native and 3rd party solutions. Discusses RPO and RTO strategies with business leaders.
11. Performs advanced performance monitoring and troubleshooting. Creates execution plans, uses database optimizers, and has experience using database-specific monitoring technologies.
12. Applies a cybersecurity mindset and best practices to secure Database servers. Interacts/guides audit and compliance teams. Uses data security/encryption mechanisms (e.g., TDE, data masking/redacting/subsetting). Hardens database servers based upon security hardening requirements. Assists with security audits from internal and external providers.
13. Identifies and resolves capacity issues. Regularly monitors/reviews performance metrics to identify trends and future risks in the environment before they happen and works with leadership to get the work prioritized. Partners with the other technology teams on physical design and implementation of database infrastructure
14. Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves performance issues including expensive SQL queries, blocking/deadlocking, excessive waits, etc.,

Required Skills:

1. Technical knowledge in database development methodologies, design and implementation and basic database administration skills/experience (procedures for change control, test and production release).
2. 7+ years Database Administration experience
3. Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
4. Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
5. Knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery options for database technologies.
6. Experience migrating on-prem environments to public cloud (Azure-preferred)
7. Knowledge of best practices in the areas of application design, performance, security, scalability and maintainability
8. Excellent analytical and design skills. Good skills in research and analysis, project planning and implementation. Excellent understanding of entire development process, including specification, documentation and quality assurance. An awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans is necessary.
9. Excellent analytical skills and written/verbal communication skills.
10. Excellent teamwork skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate in a positive, productive manner within and outside of Enterprise Database Services team
11. Self-motivated and directed with the ability to perform without appreciable direction
