McCain Food's facility in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin is a large-scale food processing plant, employing approximately 500 employees. This site specializes in the production of a variety of potato products such as mashed, smiles, emojis, tater tots, French fries (sweet and white potatoes).
POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Compliance Coordinator develops, implements, and administers safety and security processes pertaining to site engineering, maintenance, and utility operations. The Coordinator supports continuous improvement in the areas of site safety and security; injury and illness prevention; food safety; audit readiness; crisis management; Process Safety Management (PSM); and regulatory compliance. Programs, policies, and practices administered by the Coordinator adhere to local regulations, state laws, federal statutes, and Company policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Emphasize plant safety goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Prioritize food safety principles, programs, techniques, and operations.
  • Support compliance with McCain corporate policies; governmental regulatory agency mandates (such as OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, WDNR, etc.); and ISO 14001 guidelines.
  • Support site functions, such as plant audit teams, the PSM committee, and safety committees, either as an attending member or in a contributory capacity.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in areas noted above by leading protocols such as root-cause analyses, incident investigations, event reviews, and records management.


SAFETY FUNCTIONS

  • Proactively comply with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Represent the site engineering and maintenance department as a safety committee member.
  • Coordinate departmental safety actions, activities, and training events.
  • Administer departmental safety documentation, such as audit corrective action registers, inspection punch lists, program implementation or modification, etc.
  • Coordinate corrective actions to address site safety deficiencies, audit findings, and recommended improvements.
  • Interact with external and internal safety groups, consultants, and auditors.
  • Remain informed of OSHA mandates and general safety standards. Support departmental programs, policies, and protocols.


FOOD SAFETY FUNCTIONS

  • Proactively comply with food safety requirements.
  • Represent the site engineering and maintenance department as a member of food safety committees and groups.
  • Coordinate departmental food safety actions, activities, and training events.
  • Administer departmental food safety documentation, such as audit corrective action registers, inspection punch lists, program modifications, Job Hazard Analyses, work permits, hot work permits, confined space permits, etc.
  • Coordinate food safety corrective actions to address site deficiencies, audit findings, and recommended improvements.
  • Interact with external and internal food safety groups, consultants, and auditors.


PSM FUNCTIONS

  • Manage PSM program elements, including Mechanical Integrity (MI) practices; Management of Change protocols; Incident Investigations (II); Line Break Permits (LBP); employee participation records; training records; and other documents associated with PSM program elements.
  • Develop and regularly review PSM Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure P&IDs and associated documents are updated.
  • Assist in development of inspection, test, and maintenance plans for utilities assets.
  • Maintain and complete departmental training documentation.
  • Ensure PSM data accuracy to support audit readiness.
  • Participate in external and internal compliance audits, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHA).
  • Interact with external and internal PSM groups, consultants, and auditors.


REGULATORY COMPLIANCE FUNCTIONS

  • Support site efforts to proactively comply with local regulations, state laws, federal statutes, Company policies, and industry standards.
  • Represent the site engineering and maintenance department in a regulatory compliance capacity.
  • Coordinate departmental compliance actions, activities, and training events.
  • Administer departmental compliance documentation, such as audit corrective action registers, inspection punch lists, program modifications, etc.
  • Coordinate corrective actions to address site compliance deficiencies, audit findings, and recommended improvements.
  • Interact with external and internal compliance groups, consultants, and auditors.
  • Stay informed of pending compliance developments through interactions with professional associations, workshops, etc.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and training opportunities such as FIT events.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work both independently and within teams with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work extended hours and on weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrated time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports, documents, and procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex instructions, correspondence, and regulatory documentation.
  • Significant computer skills, including Microsoft productivity programs. Computerized Maintenance Management System experience (SAP) preferred.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for training and other offsite events.
  • Willingness to complete other tasks, duties, and projects as assigned or needed.


The incumbent works closely with all site departments to ensure effective maintenance of assets and equipment needed to support production schedules. The candidate must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule that may include work hours on both weekdays and weekends. Typical work hours are on day shift, Monday through Friday, but the position requires the incumbent to be available for evening work as needed, and for weekend work on a rotating basis, or as otherwise directed to support site objectives.
The incumbent must be capable of covering for maintenance shop supervisors in their absence and must be available by phone for consultation during all hours the factory is in production.
The incumbent must be willing and able to work with minimal managerial oversight, and with relative autonomy, since there are occasions when immediate decisions must be made to address unexpected circumstances that could have adverse safety implications or unfavorable impact on factory operations.
The incumbent is expected to develop general working knowledge of all factory operations including, but not limited to, raw product receiving, processing, freezing, packaging, waste treatment, environmental operations, boiler operations, etc.
TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION

  • Attend training sessions as required to develop or improve skills related to functions noted above.
  • Possess or obtain certifications in appropriate fields, such as industrial safety and PSM.
