Senior Manager – Partnership Tax Compliance (Operating Partnerships, Real Estate & Private Equity)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Partnership Tax Compliance to lead the delivery of partnership tax compliance and advisory services for clients in the Operating Partnerships, Real Estate, and Private Equity sectors. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in U.S. partnership taxation, including reviewing complex partnership tax returns, tax provisions, taxable income calculations, and managing multi-jurisdictional compliance. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to build trusted client relationships while mentoring high-performing teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage end-to-end partnership tax compliance engagements for clients across Operating Partnerships, Real Estate, and Private Equity industries.
  • Review complex Federal, State, and Local Partnership Tax Returns (Forms 1065 and related schedules), ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws.
  • Review and oversee the preparation of taxable income calculations, book-to-tax adjustments, and partnership allocations.
  • Manage compliance for multi-state partnerships, including state apportionment, composite returns, withholding requirements, and nexus considerations.
  • Provide technical guidance on partnership tax matters, including allocations under IRC Section 704, basis calculations, distributions, and other pass-through taxation issues.
  • Perform technical tax research and prepare or review tax memoranda addressing complex partnership tax matters.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and advise clients on strategies to optimize tax efficiency while maintaining compliance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, developing and maintaining strong relationships through proactive communication and high-quality service delivery.
  • Lead engagement planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and project execution to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Manage tax audits, notices, and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities.
  • Drive process improvements, standardization, and technology adoption to enhance efficiency in tax compliance and reporting.
  • Collaborate with partners and cross-functional teams to support business development initiatives, proposals, and practice growth.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor managers, seniors, and associates by providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies, quality standards, and risk management procedures.
  • Manage team utilization, resource planning, and capacity to ensure optimal staffing, efficient workload distribution, and timely delivery of client engagements.
  • Drive team upskilling and monitor operational metrics by leading technical training, mentoring team members, and reporting on utilization, productivity, and engagement performance to leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent professional certification preferred.
  • 14+ years of progressive experience in U.S. Partnership Tax Compliance, preferably within a public accounting firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong experience serving clients in Operating Partnerships, Real Estate, and Private Equity industries.
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. partnership taxation, pass-through entities, and multi-state tax compliance.
  • Experience reviewing partnership tax returns, tax provisions, financial statements from a tax perspective, and taxable income calculations.
  • Strong understanding of partnership allocations, capital accounts, basis computations, and related tax reporting requirements.
  • Proven experience managing complex engagements and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent project management, client relationship management, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, technical research, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience with tax compliance and provision software (e.g., GoSystem, CCH Axcess, OneSource, Corptax, or similar) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and retain talent while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex tax matters to clients and senior leadership.
