Job Title: Engineering Manager
Location: India
Workplace Type: Remote
Job Summary
The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we’d love for you to be a part of it as our Engineering Manager
We are looking for a Engineering Manager to lead this global team. This will be a hands-on leader who can improve how we plan, configure, test, and launch. You’ll design better execution patterns, build measurable operating rhythms, strengthen collaboration across Product, Actuarial, and Underwriting, and develop a team that deeply understands the BriteCore application and its role in our insurance ecosystem.
What You Will Do As A Engineering Manager
Lead and Grow a Global Team
Manage and coach configuration engineers across India and nearshore locations.
Define clear roles, expectations, and career growth paths.
Build structured learning programs and certification goals to strengthen BriteCore and insurance domain fluency.
Mentor through live configuration reviews, retrospectives, and day-to-day problem solving.
Design and implement repeatable execution patterns across requirements intake, configuration, validation, and release workflows.
Establish measurable KPIs and SLAs to track team performance, throughput, and quality — including cycle time, rework rates, and defect escape.
Build dashboards and feedback loops that make operational performance visible and enable data-driven decisions.
Identify process bottlenecks and lead targeted improvement initiatives to increase predictability and velocity.
Collaborate with engineering enablement and QA to implement automation, validation scripts, and standardized change control practices.
Partner closely with Product, Actuarial, and Underwriting to clarify requirements early and reduce rework.
Facilitate structured working sessions to align business intent with configuration feasibility.
Ensure configuration decisions and trade-offs are transparent, traceable, and well documented.
Own configuration stability, release hygiene, and incident response.
Drive SLA adherence for configuration requests and defect resolution.
Run weekly operational reviews and publish dashboards tracking throughput, cycle time, and quality.
Maintain high standards for documentation, runbooks, and rollback plans.
Champion adoption of AI-assisted tools for requirements summarization, configuration validation, and documentation.
Pilot automation and knowledge-sharing bots that reduce manual effort and speed up testing and review.
Establish effective overlap windows, communication norms, and handoffs between U.S., India, and nearshore teams.
Create follow-the-sun collaboration patterns that sustain delivery momentum across time zones.
State launch cycle time: ↓ 30–40% from requirements sign-off to production (e.g., from ~X weeks → ~0.6X).
Throughput: +30% completed configuration stories per quarter with steady quality.
Defect escape rate: <1% of config changes cause customer-visible issues; P1 post-release defects ↓ 50%.
Lead time for change: P50 < 5 business days; P90 < 10 business days for standard config.
Change success rate: ≥ 98% (no rollback/no hotfix).
AI tooling adoption: Identify configuration activities that can be optimized using approved AI tools; showing measurable impact (e.g., PR cycle time ↓ 25%, test coverage ↑ 15 pts).
SLA adherence: ≥ 95% on agreed SLAs for tickets from Product, Actuarial, and Underwriting.
Documentation coverage: 100% of state configs with current runbooks, data maps, and rollback plans.
How you’ll operate (30/60/90)
- 30 days: Baseline metrics (cycle time, throughput, defects), stabilize ceremonies, publish state launch roadmap and risk register.
- 60 days: Ship an AI-augmented workflow (e.g., PR review + test generation), standardize change templates/runbooks, hit SLA ≥ 90%.
- 90 days: Achieve sustained cycle-time reduction trend, increase throughput ≥ 20%, zero P1 launch incidents, and executive-ready monthly ops report.
What You Will Bring As A Engineering Manager
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
- Proven track record improving execution patterns, SLAs, and throughput in a configuration- or policy-admin context.
- Experience coordinating with Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, and Engineering to define and deliver configuration requirements.
- Practical understanding of insurance PAS systems (BrightCore strongly preferred) and rating/filing lifecycles.
- Skilled at coaching — able to teach the why behind configuration choices.
- Demonstrated use of metrics, dashboards, and KPIs to drive operational improvement.
- Proven experience working with US based business teams
- Excellent written and communication skills in English language
- Remote based India role with regular engagement with U.S. Product, Actuarial, and Underwriting teams during standard business hours.
- On-call rotation is lightweight and shared; you own the playbooks and escalation clarity.
- Ability to work within core US business hours / time zone expectations - Eastern Standard Time (EST) overlap
- Workspace: A quiet space to work, an internet connection of at least 30 Mbps download | 10 Mbps upload
BrightCore certification or deep hands-on configuration experience.
Exposure to Earnix, Kettle, rating tables, underwriting rules, and state filing nuances.
Data fluency (BigQuery/Snowflake), metrics instrumentation, and building operational dashboards.
Running distributed teams (U.S./India) with tight handoffs.
The application window for this position is anticipated to close in 2 weeks (10 business days) from December 18, 2025. Please know this may change based on business and interviewing needs.
