The Opportunity
The Data Engineer II will assist in the architecture, maintenance, monitoring, advancement, tuning, business continuity planning, backup and recovery testing of the company’s development, staging and production Databases. The candidate’s job activities will include database development, definition, structure, documentation, maintenance, long-range planning, and operational guidelines and data security. The candidate will also help with development and adapting frameworks and industry best practices, executing unit and performance testing.
Primary Responsibilities
• Rewrite and review complex stored procedures when necessary following advanced SQL best practices.
• Provide recommendations and participate in design sessions with engineering teams for data restructuring and performing complex maintenance.
• Design and implement processes and solutions for data distribution and data archiving.
• Plan work to meet project deadlines, accommodate demands by development teams, set priorities, and escalate issues appropriately.
• Provide recommendations to development teams for data restructuring.
• Assist development and dev ops teams on SQL queries and tuning.
• Understand replication technologies. Transactional Replication, AlwaysOn availability groups and Log-Shipping.
Qualifications
• Experience in SQL Database Administrator (SQL DBA)
• Working experience with using ADO as ticket management tool
• Retail and wholesale petroleum industry knowledge & experience is good to have
• Experience in Powershell Automation in automating SQL Server related tasks
• Expertise in MS-BI – Development and Administration (ETL Jobs, SSIS, SSRS)
• Expertise in import and export activity
• Expertise in MS SQL Server
• Expertise in SQL Programming skills
• Design and implementation of Data Partitioning
• Optimization of hardware configuration to SQL configuration
• Ability to participate in multiple projects concurrently
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation), customer service-oriented
• Strong problem-solving skill set, and the ability to understand new technologies quickly are essential
• Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum and participates in all Agile/Scrum ceremonies
• Highly motivated self-starter with a desire to help others and take action
• Strong written and verbal communication & can translate technical concepts into non-technical terms
• Ability to independently work as a contributing member in a high-paced and focused team
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work under pressure
• Ability to socialize ideas and influence decisions without direct authority
• Considers ‘best-practice’ standards, as well as departmental policies and procedures.
