At SkySpecs, our mission is to simplify renewable asset management so less can do more for the planet. SkySpecs is helping to make this possible by automating the operations and maintenance of wind farms using advanced robotics paired with our custom-built asset performance management software, Horizon.
SkySpecs launched the world’s first completely autonomous blade inspection product in 2016 with a custom-designed drone system. Since then, SkySpecs has inspected over 95,000 wind turbines in over 27 countries, becoming the world leader in understanding the health of turbine blades. Identifying issues with turbine blades is only the first step. In 2019 SkySpecs launched Horizon to be a platform for SkySpecs to offer a multi-layered solution for customers that includes: data collection, wind turbine blade engineering expertise, and a place for all stakeholders to collaborate to manage and analyze massive amounts of data, spot trends, and create plans for high-cost repair campaigns. In 2021, SkySpecs acquired two companies specializing in wind turbine drivetrain monitoring and financial management, further expanding our asset management portfolio. Ultimately, this will help reduce the cost and risk of operations for the industry.

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our Analysis and Analytics team. You will be responsible for developing, deploying, and optimizing robust, scalable data ingestion pipelines using Python. Your core focus will be on engineering solutions that ensure high-quality datasets and power advanced analytics across our Horizon platform.
You will collaborate closely with Data Science, analytics, and engineering teams to integrate complex external data sources and ensure the reliability of datasets that support customer insights.
The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in Python development, SQL, APIs (including GraphQL), and cloud technologies, coupled with strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
IN A GIVEN WEEK, THE DATA ENGINEER WILL
- Develop and implement robust Python scripts and frameworks for the automated ingestion and orchestration of third-party datasets into the Horizon platform
- Lead the full development lifecycle (design, build, deployment, maintenance) of high-performance data transformation and ETL/ELT pipelines, primarily using Python
- Engineer and implement data validation and quality monitoring frameworks to ensure datasets are accurate, reliable, and complete
- Provide hands-on development support to Data Science and analytics teams for complex data manipulation, feature engineering, reporting logic, and insight generation
- Program custom Python connectors and services to efficiently integrate external data sources via various APIs, including GraphQL
- Automate and manage critical customer-related data operations (e.g., blade swaps, metadata corrections, dataset clean-ups) through engineered solutions and Python scripting
- Write optimized Python code to analyze and process large datasets to support the delivery of insights, dashboards, and analytics within the Horizon platform
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define technical requirements, engineer data governance solutions, and enhance data quality/process efficiency
MUST HAVES:
- BA/BS in Business, Engineering, or another technical/analytical field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in software services, data analytics, implementation, or technical analysis projects
- Strong proficiency in using SQL to query and manipulate relational databases
- Proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis and experience in developing automated data management pipelines
- Experience working with APIs, especially GraphQL
- Experience working with cloud computing tools (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Expertise using business intelligence tools such as Sisense or Tableau to perform analysis on large datasets to drive business value
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills to both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple project tasks, timelines, and deliverables; effectively delegating responsibilities among team members
- Experience leading technical customer engagements
