Safran, a France-based aerospace and defense company, has opened its largest maintenance, repair and overhaul center for the CFM International LEAP engine in Hyderabad. The move supports the “Make in India” initiative and strengthens Safran’s role in the country’s civil and military aerospace ecosystem.

Announced Wednesday, the €200 million facility, which encompasses approximately 484,376 square feet, will begin operations in 2026 and is designed to handle up to 300 LEAP engine shop visits per year. It will serve the growing fleet of LEAP-powered aircraft in the region, including the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.

Alongside this investment, Safran also stated plans for a dedicated, adjacent MRO shop for the M88 engine that powers Dassault Aviation’s Rafale fighter jet. It will be able to service more than 600 engine modules annually and employ up to 150 people at full capacity.

Safran is a long-standing industrial partner to India’s armed forces and currently operates 18 sites in the country, employing 3,000 people.
