About the team
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering FinOps Practitioner to join our dynamic team. As an integral member of our organization, you will play a key role in optimizing our cloud financial operations, ensuring cost efficiency, and driving financial accountability within our engineering teams. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of cloud technologies, financial management principles, and engineering workflows.
Your role
As an Engineering FinOps Practitioner, you’ll own cloud financial operations. You’ll work closely with Engineering Leadership, Finance, and individual Engineering teams to optimize our cloud financial operations, ensure cost efficiency, and drive financial accountability of our services and features.
This position reports to an Infrastructure Engineering Manager and has the opportunity to be based in our Bangalore, India office.
What you’ll do [i,e., Responsibilities]
- Cost Optimization:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze cloud usage patterns, identify cost drivers, and implement strategies to optimize expenses.
- Utilize FinOps best practices to continuously monitor and manage cloud costs, ensuring maximum efficiency without compromising performance.
- Financial Governance:
- Develop and enforce financial governance policies and procedures to maintain budget adherence and cost control.
- Establish clear reporting mechanisms to track and communicate budget variances, cost trends, and savings opportunities.
- Collaboration with Engineering Teams:
- Work closely with engineering teams to understand project requirements, provide financial guidance, and influence decisions that impact cost-effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of cost awareness and accountability among engineering teams.
- Forecasting and Budgeting:
- Assist in the development of accurate and comprehensive financial forecasts and budgets for engineering projects.
- Provide regular updates on actual spending versus budgeted amounts, offering insights into any discrepancies.
- Tooling and Automation:
- Evaluate and implement FinOps tools to automate cost management processes, streamline reporting, and enhance visibility into cloud expenses.
Skills you’ll bring [i,e., Qualifications]
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3 to 4 years of experience in FinOps.
- Proven experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, or a related role within an engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their pricing models.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in using FinOps tools and technologies.
Bonus Skills
FinOps Foundation experience or certification.Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.Familiarity with DevOps practices and principles.Previous experience in a fast-paced, agile environment.
