Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Software Engineering Manager to lead and mentor our team of Fullstack Software Engineers. This pivotal role will oversee the development of our suite of HR SaaS products, ensuring high quality, secure, and scalable software delivery. As a leader in our engineering group, you will foster an excellent engineering culture grounded in trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Mentorship:
- Manage, mentor, and provide technical guidance to a team of Fullstack Software Engineers.
- Foster an inclusive and collaborative team environment, promoting professional growth and development.
- Lead by example in code quality, secure coding practices, and proactive problem-solving.
- Establish a regular cadence of 1:1 interaction with your reports with a focus on servant leadership, mentoring, and career advancement.
Project Management:
- Oversee agile development processes, including sprint planning, task estimation, and epic breakdown.
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software, addressing technical challenges and dependencies.
- Collaborate with senior leadership from product and engineering departments to align on project goals and milestones.
Technical Excellence:
- Lead efforts in writing clean, production-ready code and conducting comprehensive code reviews.
- Establish and maintain robust observability, monitoring, and logging practices.
- Guide teams towards strong architectural principles and user centric designs
Operational Responsibilities:
- Drive strategic forward momentum for the team, taking ownership of new tasks and stories.
- Promote and exemplify an excellent engineering culture grounded in trust, accountability, character, and honesty.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in engineering, data science, computer science, or information systems.
- 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering with SaaS applications, including leadership or management roles.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of Java and Spring, with experience in React.js.
- Proficient in full stack development, including server-side and client-side components, RESTful API design, and front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Strong familiarity with relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and cloud computing (AWS services).
- Mastery of microservices architecture, containerization, and container management tools.
Methodologies and Practices:
- Extensive experience with Agile methodologies and familiarity with tools such as JIRA.
- Mastery of Git source control and automated build pipelines (CircleCi, Jenkins).
- Advanced understanding of unit testing and automated testing practices.
- Familiarity with test driven development and CI/CD style delivery and development
Soft Skills:
- Highly effective communication skills, comfortable leading within a team and driving development discussions.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and propose creative solutions.
- Ability to deliver constructive feedback with tact and empathy, actively contributing to mentorship without ego.
